It’s always difficult tracking down a place to meet friends that has the perfect balance between bar and restaurant. Well, now brand new to Kings Cross London, The Bloomsbury Group and Belgo have partnered to create a space in the newly refurbished Crowne Plaza Hotel (formally the Holiday Inn).

Having been to the Holiday Inn previously, I have to say the venue is completely transformed. The Bloom Bar has a relaxed ambience which feels almost cosy. Paired with the Belgo next door – you can line your stomach with Moules Frites before settling down with a gin cocktail over some jazz.

Check out this quick intro with what to expect from Kevin D. Kugler, Head Mixologist at Bloom:

Inspired by a love of gin and passion for food, The Bloom Bar pays homage to the famous artistic set, The Bloomsbury Group and the surrounding area of Kings Cross. The Bloomsbury Group were a collective of bohemian writers, poets and intellectuals including Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell. They worked together, studied together and were renowned for their exclusive gatherings.

“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” – Virginia Woolf

I’ve always been a big fan of Belgo restaurants and the new Kings Cross branch does not disappoint. From fresh mussels, steak, to rotisserie chicken and a range of 52 Belgium beers – we left extremely merry, rubbing our bellies in satisfaction.

Head on down to, 1 Kings Cross Rd, London, WC1X 9HX to check it out for yourself.

Opening Hours:

  • Bloom: Sunday – Wednesday – 6.30am – 11pm, Thursday – Saturday – 6.30am – 1am (Live Jazz, every Tuesday evening).
  • Belgo: Monday – Sunday – 12 noon – 11pm

It gets a high score on the Annem-o-meter (especially because of the Espresso Gin cocktail). I’ll definitely be back.
